Inspired by local stories, Kelly Kirk’s research focuses on the suffrage movement in the Black Hills region of South Dakota. Kirk says the interconnectivity and networking among suffragists played a role in their success. Her research reveals the challenges of reaching the many small mining communities and the impact local suffragists made in leading the movement.
